Progressive Climate Foundation Hosts Seminar on “Clean and Green Swat: Changing Minds for Climate Resilience” at Jahanzaib College, Swat

Swat, August 2024 — The Progressive Climate Foundation (PCF) held an impactful seminar today at Jahanzaib College, Swat, under the theme “Clean and Green Swat: Changing Minds for Climate Resilience.” The event gathered students, educators, and community members to discuss the pressing issue of climate change and its implications for the region.

Dr. Jan Muhammad, Deputy Director in the Agriculture Department, served as the guest of honor. In his address, Dr. Jan Muhammad highlighted the significant impacts of climate change on agriculture, particularly concerning the crops in the Malakand Division. He emphasized the need for adaptive strategies to safeguard agricultural productivity in the face of changing climate patterns.

Tawseef Khan, the Founder and President of PCF, underscored the importance of youth mobilization in his speech. He noted that the active engagement of the younger generation is crucial in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, urging them to take leadership roles in their communities to drive environmental action.

Mian Shahid Hamid, Project Director, PCF, in his welcome address said that youth can bring change and if not you, then who will lead the change? He emphasized the potential of the youth and encouraged them to play an active role in protecting the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change.

PCF HR Secretary, Roshni Hadi, provided an insightful explanation of climate change, focusing on the shifting patterns of its impacts in Swat. Her speech emphasized the need for a deeper understanding of these changes to effectively develop climate resilience in the region.

Asif Javid, climate activist, also addressed the audience, stressing the importance of youth engagement in climate action. He encouraged the youth to become advocates for environmental protection and to participate actively in initiatives that aim to mitigate the effects of climate change.

PCF District Coordinator Swat Syed Salman Nasir closed the session by reiterating that climate change is a real and pressing issue. He called for collective action and sustained efforts to combat the environmental challenges facing Swat and the broader region.

The seminar concluded with a lively discussion, with participants expressing a strong commitment to continue raising awareness and taking action to protect their environment.
