The Green Youth Movement Club and the Department of Environmental Science (DES) at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), in collaboration with the Progressive Climate Foundation (PCF), jointly organized the PCF Climate Youth Summit 2025 at Allama Iqbal Hall, Faisal Mosque campus.
Themed “Voices of the Future: Climate Dialogue in Youth Leadership,” the summit provided a platform for youth leaders, environmental scientists, policymakers, and civil society representatives to engage in dialogue and share ideas on sustainable development and climate resilience.
The event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem, followed by introductory remarks from hosts Zonia Kareem and Quratulain Farooq. Mr. Tawseef Khan, Founder and CEO of PCF, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the need for community engagement and youth involvement in climate advocacy.
Senator Dr. Sherry Rehman, Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, attended as chief guest. In her keynote, she discussed Pakistan’s climate-related challenges, including rising temperatures, water scarcity, and public health risks. She emphasized the importance of integrating climate education into school curricula and recognized IIUI and PCF for their work in public awareness and community programs.
The summit featured a panel discussion with academics and climate professionals. Dr. Sarah Amir, Academic In-Charge of the Department of Environmental Science and focal person of the Green Youth Movement Club, highlighted the academic sector’s contribution to climate policy and youth mobilization.
An award ceremony honored PCF Climate Action Fellowship participants for their work on climate research and local engagement. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Student Advisor at IIUI, praised the collaborative nature of the summit and emphasized institutional roles in promoting environmental leadership.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Syeda Maria Ali, Chairperson of the Environmental Science Department, who expressed appreciation to all contributors and affirmed IIUI’s continued commitment to climate literacy and action.
A networking session followed, allowing participants to build connections and explore future collaborations for environmental initiatives across Pakistan.
